Orange Day
Wednesday August 28th 2013, 9:44 am
Filed under: Uncategorized  |  Leave a Comment

On Wednesday the 28th of August we had an Orange Day.

On Orange Day we eat orange food and wear orange clothes.

At recess you can buy carrot sticks, orange juice, and orange pieces

for 50 cents. At lunch we can buy pumpkin soup and bread for ]

$1. We grew all of the pumpkins ourselves in our vegie patch.

We are celebrating Orange Day to raise money for the

Orangutans in Indonesia. We are trying to help the Orangutans

and stop people cutting down their habitat to grow palm oil.
The more we buy palm oil products, the more we are encouraging

them to cut down Orangutan habitat and grow Palm oil.

We celebrate Orange Day every year.

Our Class Rubbish Audit

On Monday the 12th of August, 3/4B and 3/4 S did a rubbish audit. We tipped all of the rubbish from our class bins onto a mat. We weighed all of the rubbish. It was 2.3 Kg. We sorted the rubbish into four groups, recycling, landfill, compost and uneaten food. Then we weighed each group. The photos show each group. The first photo is the Compost 1.4 kg, the second photo is the Landfill 200g, the third photo is the Recycling 300g and the last photo is Uneaten Food.

We were very surprised to find that the rubbish bin was full of recycling and compost. We have a recycling bin and compost bin in our classrooms. The landfill was only 200g from two classrooms.

We were also very surprised to find so much uneaten food in the bin. Some people are wasting their food and throwing it out. There were packets of chips, muesli bars and fresh fruit. We now know that it is a waste to throw food in the bin.

Our class goal is to reduce the amount of recycling and compost that goes into landfill.

I thought about moo because I like farm animals like cows, sheep, chickens and ducks all the animals are very cute. Cows the most because they eat grass most of the day and to them it looks more yummy to them. thats why I wrote moo.

Haikus are Japanese poems. They have 17 syllables altogether. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the last line has 5 syllables. Haikus were originally about Nature but now they can be about anything.

Here are some of our Haiku Poems about us.

Every Monday morning we have a cricket clinic. Australian Stars come to teach us cricket skills. First we get a warm up then we get separated into boys and girls groups. The names of the cricket players were Tene, Fraser, Doppler, Sam, Airport, Cameron and Maddy.

The activities included hitting the ball off the cone, passing the ball around while someone is running an obstacle course, throwing the ball at a tower, cathcing skills, thowing up the ball and catching it, and throwing the ball at the stumps.

It was really exciting and we all enjoyed the cricket clinic.

Beach Day

On beach day we went to Canadian bay. Hamish and I were collecting sea animals but especially sea snails. We collected 20 sea snails in the rock pools. We almost caught a huge crab but it was too quick!!!Then we all got really hungry so we had recess.

By Loralei

On the 12th of March Frankston East Primary School went on an excursion to Canadian bay. 3/4S left as we came to school. The drive to the bay was roughly 10 or 15 minutes. When we (grade 3/4S and 3/4B) got there, we had to carefully walk down the steep steps to get to the beach. Some people found at least 60 crabs in the rock pools, some found 40, and some found 5. Most girls wanted to find pretty

Shells, Most boys wanted to find LOTS of crabs. Then the weather became boiling!!!! Soon enough it was snack time. Some people wanted to wet their shoes and socks because of the sand in their shoes then we went back to school early because of the SUPER HOT weather.
